Organize PDF pages
FileReshape's Organize PDF tool lets you reorder, rotate and delete PDF pages in one step, by dragging thumbnails or using arrow buttons, and then saves a new PDF. Pages are copied in your browser, and the file is not uploaded. Deleted pages are left out of the new file, page labels are not carried over, a digital signature becomes invalid, and encrypted PDFs cannot be changed.
Did a file not convert correctly? E-mail [email protected], ideally with a small sample file, and it will be fixed.
Key facts
- Works with: PDF (.pdf).
- Your files are not uploaded: the work is done in your browser, on your own device.
- File size: no fixed limit; very large files are limited by your device's memory.
- Needs a current browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari) on a computer, tablet or phone; nothing to install.
- Free to use, with no sign-up.
Why organize the pages of a PDF
A scanned stack of papers rarely comes out right the first time. The appendix ended up in front of the letter, page 7 went through the feeder upside down, a blank back page sits between every sheet, and the landscape table on page 12 faces the wrong way. Fixing that with separate tools means saving and reopening the file three times. Here you see every page as a thumbnail and do it all at once: drag a page to its new place, turn it a quarter turn with ↻, mark pages you do not want with ×, and save one new PDF. On a phone or with the keyboard, the ← and → buttons under each page move it one place at a time, so nothing depends on dragging. The pages are copied, not redrawn, so text stays selectable and scans keep their full quality.
How to reorder, rotate and delete PDF pages
- Drop your PDF in the box, or click to choose it. A thumbnail of every page appears.
- Drag pages into the order you want, or use ← and → under a page. Turn pages with ↻ and mark pages to remove with ×.
- Click Save new PDF and download the organized file.
What changes when you convert
The numbers are the old page numbers
Each thumbnail keeps the number it had in the original file, also after you move it, so you can always tell which page is which. The counter above the pages says how many pages the new file will have. Start over puts every page back in its first place, unturned and not deleted.
Deleted pages are left out, not hidden
The new PDF is built only from the pages you keep. Images and text of pages marked with × are not copied into it, and links or bookmarks that pointed to them are removed, so the file usually gets smaller. Your original file is not changed; keep it if you might need those pages again.
Turning adds to the rotation that is already there
↻ turns a page 90° clockwise each time you click it; four clicks bring it back. A page that was already stored rotated in the PDF is turned further from how it looks now. The thumbnails show each page the way it will be saved, so check that everything reads upright before you save.
What comes along and what does not
Bookmarks that point to pages you keep stay in the side panel, internal links follow their page to its new place, and form fields stay fillable with their values. Page labels, such as roman numerals for a preface, are not carried over, because they would no longer match the new order.
Signed and protected PDFs
Any change to the pages makes a digital signature invalid. PDFs that are encrypted, even ones that open without a password but restrict editing, cannot be changed here; the tool says so instead of producing a broken file.
About the formats
PDF (Portable Document Format) was created by Adobe in 1993 and has been an ISO standard since 2008. A PDF looks the same on every device, which is why it is used for contracts, invoices, forms, manuals and scanned documents.
- A page can hold text, vector graphics and images, each placed exactly.
- Scanned documents are usually one image per page.
- A PDF can be protected with a password that is needed to open or edit it.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Thumbnails are drawn and the new PDF is built by your browser on your own device, and the file never leaves it.
Can I put pages from two PDFs together?
Combine the files with the merge tool first, then open the merged PDF here and put the pages in the order you want.
Does dragging work on a phone?
Dragging needs a mouse or a trackpad. On a phone or tablet, tap ← or → under a page to move it one place at a time; the buttons also work with the Tab and Enter keys.
Is there a quick way to reverse the whole document?
Yes. Reverse order turns the page order around in one click, which fixes a stack that was scanned last page first. Turn all turns every page a quarter turn.
