Font converters

Put a font on a website, install a web font on your computer, or get a .ttf for a program that does not accept .otf. The font converters run in your browser, so licensed fonts from your foundry stay on your device. The font itself is not redrawn or renamed: names, character sets, kerning and the licence information are kept.

Formats

Which tool do I need?

You want to use a font on your website
TTF and OTF to WOFF2 packs the font into the compressed format browsers expect, usually 50 to 70 % smaller than the TTF. Check that the font's licence allows web use. Convert TTF to WOFF2
You have a .woff2 or .woff file and want to install the font
WOFF2 to TTF unpacks the web font into the original font file, which Windows, macOS and Linux can install. Convert WOFF2 to TTF
A program accepts only .ttf, but your font is an .otf
OTF to TTF converts the PostScript outlines into TrueType outlines and keeps the names, kerning and ligatures. Convert OTF to TTF

Fonts and licences

Converting a font does not change what its licence allows. Many commercial desktop licences do not cover use on a website, and the licence flags inside some fonts forbid embedding. Free fonts under the SIL Open Font License, such as most Google Fonts, can be converted and used on websites.
