Delete pages from a PDF

Free, private and fast: everything runs in your browser and your PDF file is never uploaded.

Why remove pages from a PDF

Blank backs from a duplex scan, an outdated price list in the middle of a brochure, a page with an ID number you would rather not send, terms and conditions nobody asked for: removing pages makes a PDF shorter, smaller and safer to share. Click the thumbnails of the pages to remove, or type their numbers such as 2, 5-7, and download the PDF without them. Switch to "Keep only the selected pages" to do the opposite and extract a few pages into a new file, for example the two pages of a contract that need a signature. The remaining pages are copied unchanged in their original order, with selectable text and full-quality images.

How to delete pages from a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF in the box, or click to choose it. A thumbnail of every page appears.
  2. Click the pages to delete, or type them in the Pages box. Choose "Keep only the selected pages" to extract them instead.
  3. Click Delete pages (or Extract pages) and download the new PDF.

What changes when you convert

Deleted pages are really gone

The new PDF is built only from the pages you keep, so the content of the removed pages is not left hidden somewhere in the file. Internal links and bookmarks that pointed to a removed page are taken out as well. Keep the original if you might need those pages later.

Odd and even for duplex scans

A two-sided scan of single-sided letters has a blank page after every page. Click Even to select pages 2, 4, 6 and so on, check the thumbnails for backs that are not blank, and delete the rest in one go.

Bookmarks, forms and page labels

Bookmarks that point to pages you keep stay in the side panel, and form fields on those pages stay fillable with their current values. The document's page labels (such as roman numerals for a preface) are not carried over, so the new file numbers its pages from 1.

The order stays the same

Extracted pages keep the order they have in the original, whatever order you click them in. To put pages in a new order, extract them in groups and combine the groups with the merge tool.

Signed and protected PDFs

Removing pages breaks a digital signature, because the signed document has changed. PDFs that are encrypted, even ones that open without a password, cannot be edited here; the tool tells you so.

About the formats

PDF

PDF (Portable Document Format) was created by Adobe in 1993 and has been an ISO standard since 2008. A PDF looks the same on every device, which is why it is used for contracts, invoices, forms, manuals and scanned documents.

  • A page can hold text, vector graphics and images, each placed exactly.
  • Scanned documents are usually one image per page.
  • A PDF can be protected with a password that is needed to open or edit it.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Pages are removed by your browser on your own device, and the file is never sent anywhere.

Does the file get smaller?

Normally, yes: the images and content of the removed pages are left out. Fonts used by the remaining pages stay, so a short text PDF shrinks less than a scan does.

Can I delete pages from a scanned PDF?

Yes. A scanned page is one image, and the pages you keep are copied without being compressed again.

What does "Keep only the selected pages" do?

It extracts: the new PDF contains just the pages you selected, and your original file is not changed. Use it to send one chapter, one invoice or the signature page of a contract.

Is there a page limit?

No fixed limit. Thumbnails are drawn as you scroll, so documents with several hundred pages work in most browsers.
