Convert PNG to PDF
Free, private and fast: everything runs in your browser and your PNG files are never uploaded.
PNG to PDF: why convert
PNG is the format of screenshots, exported diagrams, pages saved by many scanner apps, and images with transparency. Turning a set of them into one PDF makes them easy to attach to a support ticket, hand in as an assignment or archive as a single document. Add your PNG files, put them in order and download one PDF with a page per image. The pixels go into the PDF exactly as they are, without lossy compression, so small text in a screenshot stays readable and line drawings keep their sharp edges. Everything happens in your browser, which matters when the screenshots show customer data, chat conversations or account details.
How to convert PNG to PDF
- Drop your PNG files in the box, or click to choose them. You can add more later.
- Put them in order with the arrows, and choose a page size and margin.
- Click Create PDF and download the file.
What changes when you convert
Transparent areas show the white page
Transparency is kept: the PDF stores it as a soft mask, so the image sits on the page the way it sat on your screen. Because a PDF page is white, transparent areas look white in readers and print as plain paper. If you take the image out of the PDF again, its transparency is still there.
Page size for screenshots
"Same as each image" counts one pixel as one point (1/72 inch), so a 1920 × 1080 screenshot gives a page of about 68 × 38 cm. On screen that does not matter, as readers zoom to fit; for printing choose A4 or US Letter, and each image is scaled to fit the page without being stretched.
File size
The pixel data is stored with lossless compression, so the PDF is usually about as large as the PNG files together, sometimes a little larger or smaller. Photos saved as PNG are big, though; for photos, JPG to PDF gives much smaller files.
Colour depth and profiles
16-bit PNGs, which some scanners and design tools write, are reduced to 8 bits per channel, a difference you will not see in a document. An embedded colour profile is not carried over, so wide-gamut screenshots from recent Macs can look slightly less saturated.
Text in screenshots is not searchable
A screenshot is a picture of text, so the PDF cannot be searched or copied from. That needs OCR (text recognition), which this tool does not do.
About the formats
PNG
PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a lossless image format from 1996 and the usual format for screenshots, logos, diagrams and images with transparency. Every pixel is stored exactly, so text and sharp edges stay crisp.
- Lossless: saving again never reduces quality.
- Supports full transparency (an alpha channel).
- Photos saved as PNG are usually several times larger than as JPG.
PDF (Portable Document Format) was created by Adobe in 1993 and has been an ISO standard since 2008. A PDF looks the same on every device, which is why it is used for contracts, invoices, forms, manuals and scanned documents.
- A page can hold text, vector graphics and images, each placed exactly.
- Scanned documents are usually one image per page.
- A PDF can be protected with a password that is needed to open or edit it.
Frequently asked questions
Are my PNG files uploaded?
No. The PDF is put together by your browser on your device, and the images are never sent anywhere.
Can I mix PNG with JPG files?
Yes. JPG, WebP, GIF and BMP files you drag into the box are added too. JPG photos are placed as they are, and the other formats are turned into high-quality JPG inside the PDF.
What order do the pages get?
The order of the list, which starts as the order you added the files in. Use the arrows to move an image up or down, or the cross to remove it.
Can I put several screenshots on one page?
Not here: every image gets a page of its own. Combine them in an image editor first if you need several on one page.
